In tandem with the Red Scare, the LGBTQ+ community also faced the Lavender Scare with target attacks on their employment within the U.S. federal government or its contractors. Executive Order 10450 was signed into law by President Eisenhower on April 27, 1953, starting period spanning decades where approximately 5,000 to 10,000 LGBTQ+ employees were investigated, were interrogated, and lost their jobs.
